Menopause & Insomnia

“I’ve suffered insomnia since menopause set in”

As women age, many of them experience sleep problems in perimenopause or menopause. Some twenty-four percent of pre-menopausal women say they have problems sleeping, compared with forty-one percent of postmenopausal women. Hot flashes and night sweats are part of the problem. As a result, there may be low energy, fatigue, and disordered sleeping.

The good news is that you can take charge of menopause-related symptoms that cause disturbed sleep naturally, without resorting to drugs.

In Rewired for Sleep, one of my patients, Margaret, came in with serious hot flashes. Aside from receiving acupuncture, she learned acupoints to treat it using pressure and specific essential oils. There are Womens’ herbs such as black Cohosh and wild yam. I also showed her how to do Meridian Tapping, among other methods to ease the discomfort.
